With the exception of a one-week “retirement” in 2002, she’s worked there ever since. When that store closed in 1958 she was out of work for a week when she applied for a job in the accounting office at the Navy Exchange on the Newport Navy base. When that store closed she was transferred to the company’s store in Fall River, Mass. She began working when she was 15, while still attending classes at Rogers High School - then located in what is now Thompson Middle School.Īfter she graduated from Rogers in 1954, she went to work at Standard Furniture on Bellevue Avenue. O’Connor, 79, hasn’t taken much time off from work in her life. Ann O’Connor of Middletown was honored on Tuesday for 57 years of service at the Newport Navy base.
